About
Design rooted in real-world experience
I'm Cliff van Tonder — a Cape Town-based web and graphic designer with a background that most designers don't have. Over 25 years working across retail, warehousing, and financial services taught me something invaluable: what businesses actually need, and what gets in the way of growth.
For 15 of those years I held technical and team lead positions — as a database and BI engineer, managing systems, people, and processes at scale. That background gave me a deep love of data and an analytical eye that informs every design decision I make. I've seen first-hand how poor digital presence costs businesses clients, and how the right design builds instant trust.
As a full stack engineer — historically and today — I don't just design and hand off. I build. From database architecture to front-end polish, every project is engineered end-to-end with the same attention to detail. That's a combination most studios can't offer.

I believe great design is deeply personal. Every business has a unique story, and my job is to translate that story into a visual experience that connects emotionally with the right audience. A high-end steakhouse in Cape Town needed a website as refined as their menu. We built a rich, dark-themed site with online reservations, animated menu sections, and a full brand identity from scratch.
